I joined Denise’s upholstery class last January when I took early retirement. I was keen to learn new skills. It has been an exciting year and so rewarding to have something to show for my labours!

The class is lovely, everyone is friendly and they have really made me feel at home. Denise is great, she is very knowledgeable and nothing is too much trouble for her. She is very hands on and fantastic at explaining different techniques in a practical way which is easy to follow and understand.

I am not a very practical person and I am thrilled and surprised at what I have achieved.

So far I have re-upholstered 6 dining chairs, re-covered an office chair and now for my biggest challenge to totally renovate a very old nursing chair (stripping, re-webbing, re-springing, stuffing and re-covering).

Come and join us, you won’t regret it.

Denise has a wide range of expertise and qualifications in both upholstery and dressmaking.

In teaching her students she shares her knowledge in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. Whether it’s traditional upholstery, modern upholstery or dressmaking, everyone can be assured of expert help and advice in a friendly and happy class.

I started attending Denise’s upholstery classes in 2006!  The fact that I’m still coming after so many years , and also do a 60 mile round trip to attend, shows how much I enjoy it. Denise has got me really hooked on upholstery and I have done everything from recovering drop-seat dining chairs to re-caning a footstool and fully restoring an antique armchair, that I picked up for only £5!  Not only have I learnt some great new skills, I’ve also made some really good friends and I’d recommend it to anyone.

I have been going to the Thursday workshop for quite a while now. Starting with no experience as a beginner, I am now completing a traditionally upholstered vintage chair! Denise, a fully qualified C&G tutor, runs the self-funding, not-for-profit group which, as well as being friendly and welcoming, caters for all ages and stages and is also a valuable source of advice, info on places to find bargains, supplies and suppliers. Denise can provide all you need to get started in the way of tools, equipment and basic upholstery suppliers and spends time with each of us to guide us through our various upholstery and soft-furnishing projects.  Having now moved away from the Horwich area I still travel from the Fylde Coast each week as I haven’t found a better class or tutor than the Horwich workshop or Denise. Come and join us!

Fylde Coast

I have been attending Denise’s upholstery class for 12 months now and have managed to upholster a large footstool, made some cushions and I am currently upholstering a chair.

I enjoy the classes very much as Denise is very knowledgeable, experienced and has an abundance of patience and enthusiasm which drives us all on.

The classes are very sociable, comprising of a variety of people of all ages and experience. Everyone in the class has their own individual project on the go and is able to work at their own pace without any pressure.

The members of the class who have more experience in upholstery are an invaluable resource by providing help and advice in addition to Denise.

It is a very satisfying and rewarding hobby that is very sociable and good fun at the same time.
